Round 1 Lamborghini Super Trofeo

First round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo European Championship! Jonathan Cecotto competed with the Italian team Imperiale Racing and his team mate Vito Postiglione, vice Champion of the Super Trofeo in 2016!

Cecotto was able to adapt itself straight away to the 620hp Lamborghini Huracán, setting the 3rd fastest time in Free Practice 1 and the 2nd fastest in Free Practice 2.

Saturday morning, qualifying session. Postiglione qualified himself in 2nd position for Race 1, one tenth behind car #7 of GDL Racing of Rik Breukers.

Cecotto surprised everybody in Qualifying 2 by setting the fastest lap time and so claiming the first pole position of the season at his first qualifying! Only 0.014 sec behind, car number 11 of Konrad Racing with Rettenbacher.

In Race 1, Postiglione started the race, maintaining his 2nd position behind Breukers at the start. Before the pit window opened, 3rd and 4th place where right behind. At the driver change, Cecotto jumped in the car. On his out lap, he found some traffic with slower cars, this resulted that the cars in 2nd and 3rd place overtook him as they did their driver change. Jonathan was battling for 3rd position together with #6 car of Vincenzo Sospiri Racing, but at the end he was not able to overtake and ended in P4.

The young Venezuelan started on pole position for Race 2. He had an excellent start, gaining an advantage of about 4 seconds to 2nd place. Safety car came in and he lost all the advantage, but he gained it again at the restart, setting also the fastest lap time of the race. At the driver change, they unfortunately had a problem with the clutch, and Postiglione had difficulties leaving the pits. They came out having lost about 14 seconds and in 9th position. Postiglione did a fantastic job recovering positions and did some incredible overtaking manoeuvres, like overtaking 2 cars at the outside entering the "parabolica" corner. He was able to end the race in P4.

Currently, they are in 4th position in the championship. Next race is in Silverstone the 12-13-14 May.

"We where so unlucky in Race 2, the win was ours but we had that problem at the driver change. Apart from that, I'm quite happy with the first race weekend. My pace was good and I was able to claim the fastest lap of the race and pole position." - Jonathan Cecotto
